A Much Needed Space

My family came to SMA in 2010 and, like many, fell in love. My mother, an artist, and my stepfather, a native Mexican, thought it was the perfect blend for them. For a while they lived between California and San Miguel.

They bought "The Field" hoping to build a small retirement ranch, but realized uprooting their lives in California to move to the outskirts of San Miguel de Allende wasn’t their destiny.

During every visit my mother found homes for abandoned dogs — she rescued over 80. I was lucky to end up with one, Pam-Jam (seen in the photo). She was older when she landed with us, a melancholic soul. She lived in California and Colombia, and returned to San Miguel to finish her days.

I’m their daughter, trying to continue what they began. Following my mother’s footsteps, I’ve found myself deeply involved in the dog world.

We aren’t sure what the future holds for the land, but in the meantime we wanted to provide a secure place for dogs to run off leash. When I first moved here with four dogs in my care, it felt like a game of chess figuring out where I could safely let them burn off energy. We hope you and your dogs enjoy the space!
